Been hearing a lot lately about problems with lethal injections for Death Row Inmates, but the government screwing up what would seem to be a fairly simple process ain’t really news.
What bothers me is that the real news is that our society can no longer deny that our justice system doesn’t work like most folks think but this is not being discussed at a national level in the media.
Our nation purports o care so much about the injustice of imprisoning an innocent person that we rather let 99 guilty persons go free first. Supposedly we won’t make a finding of guilty in a criminal trial unless all 12 jurors are 100 certain they have no reasonable doubt that the accused is guilty. And we have many venues for reviewing the process which resulted in such a finding.
So then, why have hundreds of convicted & condemned to death persons been proved totally innocent?
This well established & Widely known fact proves that our justice system does not function as well all like to believe it does. It also proves that since all those condemned were only proved innocent due to DNA testing, & most felons don’t have that possibility, there must be many hundreds, or thousands more people who’re been convicted but are in fact innocent.
Well, nothings perfect. I suppose we’ll all just have to learn how to live knowing that innocent folks are being convicted & imprisoned all the time. Yeah, sucks, but so long as us don’t affect me, I can deal with it. But how cab I ever live with the fact that I know without any doubt that totally innocent people are being killed my the government?
That undeniable & any further support for the Death Penalty equals knowingly advocating murdering innocent people. I can’t live with that because it makes me guilty of murder. This fact needs to be recognized & acknowledged by our society, who then need to make a choice: to continue to knowing murder innocent people or to stop doing so.
Because were not involved in any discussion of this reality in the political arena is what bothers me. Is this not an important issue? Does our society really not even care? What’s really going on over here.
