The San Quentin Giants started the 2024 season by winning their first seven games, but on May 25, they came across an improved visiting Barons team. The Barons who recorded the win, 7–4.
The Barons won because of defensive miscues by the home team that included an error by Giants team captain and shortstop Carrington “The Natural” Russelle, who had a line drive shot tip off the end of his glove.
The visitors scored two on an RBI single gave the Barons a 2–0 lead before San Quentin came to the plate.
The Giants tied the score with a triple, a walk, a stolen base, and a bases-clearing double by catcher Aaron “June” Miles.
The game shifted to a pitcher’s duel as Giants starter Vic Picazo stranded Barons at second base.
The score remained knotted at two until the Giants scored a run in the sixth as Picazo got an RBI single.
The Giants made four more infield errors that allowed the Barons to take the lead for good.
After suffering their only loss in 2024, the SQ Giants righted their ship, winning on a windy overcast Saturday morning against the San Francisco Mission with a score of 17–5.
For a full regular scheduled season, SQ Baseball suffered its earliest loss since 2018, but they started another streak with the win against the Mission.
