MUSIC, WALL CITY WINTER 2022

January 23, 2023 by San Quentin News

Quentin Blue was one
of San Quentin’s best known
music groups prior to
the Coronavirus pandemic.
All but two members of
the band’s 2019 lineup,
including group founder
Richie Morris (far right), have
paroled or transferred.
Darryl Farris (left,
foreground) digs deep
on the bass during a 2018
music event, with Alan Brown
on guitar and Joe Thursonon
drums (background)
and Rico Rogers (far right)
on keyboards. Many San
Quentans fondly remember
the incredible guitar prowess
of Chris “Colonel Crispy”
Koppe (center), who sadly
passed away in 2019. Sleep
peacefully, old friend.
Joe Dumar is a woodwind
wonder on sax during
a 2019 performance in
the Catholic Chapel.
Raul Higgins giggin’
on the Bongos for a
2019 yard performance.
The Spanish-language
“Banda Esperanza”
performs at San Quentin’s
annual Day of Peace
celebration in 2022.
Native American
flutist Gregory “White
Eagle” Coates brings
First Nations culture to
the 2017 Day of Peace.
